Project

Art Nouveau Cabinet

This project aims to create a wooden storage unit with a shoe rack underneath to optimize the wall space underneath the stairs in our apartment.

In addition to space optimization, I wanted to challenge myself by creating a unit with organic shapes and limited right angles. The organic forms are meant to embody an art nouveau/Gaudi aesthetic.

Version 1 of the cabinet doors. Cut out the pattern using a laser cutter. After cutting, I noticed too much of the space had been cut out

version 2 of the cabinet doors. Design had better balance of positive and negative space. Let enough light through without revealing too much what was behind the door
